I Know it When I See It

According to Joe Turner at the TNT, the Washington legislature is considering a 18.5% tax on porn-related business, with the funds being used to help maintain some of the programs Gov. Gregoire has proposed cutting.

The point man on the legislation, Mark Miloscia, mentioned to Turner that California's similar tax (at a heftier 25%), raised $250 million for the state last year, so Washington's would provide a sizable chunk of money to a cash-strapped government.

Which leads me to wonder - if the legislature were to bump the tax up to 25%, could they see clear to direct the extra 7% towards rebuilding KeyArena? And, if so, what would we call the new building? The Palace of Ample Hills? Madison's Secret Garden? Orifice Arena?

Wait, so you're saying that the Big O in Montreal is not porn-related? Je suis troublé, monsieur.

Maybe tax beer and wine more, and candy & soda.

And reduce or close the hundreds of special business tax breaks.

Wait, people still actually pay for smut? On physical media no less? Next you'll tell me that people still get their news from newspapers and listen to AM radio.
