I had a similar desire back in the mid 80's (not snuffing vagrants) to own a ColecoVision. I had to somehow convince my mom that this was THE game system I needed. And that the ColecoVision would not suffer the similar fate of the Odyssey 2 system that was collecting dust in the closet(I had also begged for that one a few years prior). BTW, Intelivision was soooo lame. Those paddle controllers were the worst.

And yet, the iPod has almost the same controls at the Intellivision, and it's a huge success! Maybe it was ahead of its time. :)
