Mark Your Calendars!

Was trolling for some information about Dana Barros today, trying to see if he was still mired in difficulty about his failed sports complex in Boston (he's not; he actually managed to extricate himself from that mess, sort of, and is now working in media relations for the Celtics).

As I was saying, I was looking for any Barros-related content, and, lo and behold, I find the most bizarre conglomeration of athletes in any event in history (non-strip-club-related, that is).

On September 18th in Ye Olde Towne, a "Think Tank" involving "Boston Sports Legends" will take place at the famed TD Banknorth Tower.

When you think "Boston Sports Legends," you're thinking Orr, Bird, McHale, Yaz, or, at least, Win Remmerswaal and Gerald Henderson, right? Not so fast, my Beantown friend. Here's the list of "Legends" slated to appear:

- Nancy Kerrigan
- Dana Barros
- ML Carr
- John Hannah
- Bob Sweeney (former Bruin)
- Luis Tiant
- Randy Vataha

What, was Scott Wedman unavailable?

I can hear the cocktail party banter now: "Hey, Big Jawn, remember when you made that block on John Matusek to spring Mosi Tatapu for that 8-yarder back in 1981? Yeah, that was some block, man," or, "Hey, ML, thanks for guiding us to that 48-116 record. That was really something, big fella."

It's the sports equivalent of the Legion of Substitute Super Heroes. You know, the squad that gets called up to babysit Gleek the Space Monkey when the real heroes are off saving the galaxy? Yeah, them.

Sorry for the comic nerd and sport nerd crossover.
